Where Vista keeps boot log, if any?

I need to check the moment Vista stopped booting.
Booting it in safe mode I can see
crcdisk.sys
as the last driver loaded and the window freezes.
I cannot find any bootlog.
What Vista loads next after crcdisk.sys?
How to bypass that step?
I used already installation disk in repair mode.
Some repairs were done but that is not enough.

Hi Jack,

Crcdisk.sys is normally the last displayed driver file, and the problem may
not be related to it but rather a process that is happening subsequent to
it. There can be any number of things loading after it, as this is where the
startup group kicks in. The boot log, ntbtlog.txt, is normally located in
the C:\Windows directory.

What was happening prior to the boot failure? Have you tried running the
last known good config, or using the command line boot to run system
restore?

What is happening is that Windows itself is failing to load.

This could be a different issue, but it happened to me during the early
days, before Vista had actually officially come out.

It's a long shot, but try taking out any extra PCI/PCIe cards that you may
have installed. I had a TV card that was making this happen, and I had to
find wait for a BIOS update for my motherboard before I could use the TV
card with Vista.

What should be done to force Vista to produce one?

Press F8 key during bootup, select "Enable boot logging"
"Creates a file, ntbtlog.txt, that lists all the drivers that are installed
during startup and that might be useful for advanced troubleshooting."


F8 menu in Vista Business edition:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable boot logging
Enable low resolution video
Last Known Good Configuration
Debugging mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable driver signature enforcement
Start Windows normally


If you do not see it listed, what version of Vista do you have?

Stupid me.
When I saw the screen saying that previous boot has failed and there was an
option of Safe Mode I assumed that it is a F8 screen, but it is not!!!
F8 screen has the boot with logging option which other screen does not.
It must be very confusing for many people.
