My keyboard will start malfunctioning intermittently

When I type "asdf" the results ar
"[]asdfghjkl;’`\zxcvbnm,./-+\1234567890-=qwertyuiop\" when typed ove
and over. Notice that this is the middle row then the lower row an
then the number row and then the qwerty row

This happens in Office 2003 programs when it occurs as well as othe
programs

It was causing too many problems so I had to restart and now it is no
happening

Anyone have any ideas. Running VHP with all updates

Thank

Not helpfu

The first keyboard I used was a USB Wireless "Microsoft" keyboard

The second keyboard I used was a "Microsoft" wired keyboard

That's not the problem

It's not the keys that don't work - it's the interpretation o
programming

Thanks for the input. Just not the solution

I've had this happen twice. In both cases I had to do a full shutdown (to
power off) to clear it. First time, about a year back, was with a PS/2
keyboard, so I couldn't really swap it while running. Second time, back
about July, it was a USB keyboard and I could swap it with another I had
handy. The initial keyboard was a non-name, the replacement was a Microsoft
wired one. The problem continued after the swap. Restarting didn't fix it
in my case. I had to power down and come up again. That would say
"hardware," but what hardware? Could have been the keyboard controller for
the PS/2 case, but for the two different USB keyboards?

You could try looking into if there's a problem with your HID (Huma
Interface Device) drivers. Whether it's USB or PS/2, they all go throug
there. Check it in device manager

I believe this is due to a Windows update possibly in Oct. 2009. I had
Vista Home Premium 32bit. One day it just started typing garbage in
Word, notepad, any application within the computer. Going online and
typing email tharough that service worked fine. If I reboot, it worked
on my computer for a little while.

My daughter has a Toshiba laptop with Vista Basic, it just recently
started with the same issue. If she restarts, it will work for a short
time. If you keep pressing one key, lets say the 'a' key, it will go
through the whole keyboard on that one key.

I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 32bit and now 64bit, it seems to be
working ok most of the time. I had a black screen of death, when it came
back, nothing was working right including the keyboard (same issue).
Once I reboot again, it seems to be working fine.

Does anyone know which Windows Update caused this?

I have the same problem. I have Vista 32-bit with Zone Alarm Extreme Security. While browsing with IE8 after a while in some but not all applications the keys type characters not related to the key pressed. The only way to cure is to reboot. I've found that if I use a different browser, say Google Chrome, the problem does not occur. So it seems to be some sort of incompatibility with Vista/IE8. I wish I had stayed with XP when I bought my new PC last year, Vista is awful (I have other problems I won't go into here)!!!Does someone on here have a solution???
