Vista Laptop not being updated although updates exist

My Vista PC shows up in WSUS 3.0 and WSUS says it needs 18 updates.
But "Windows Update" reports it is up to date. Checking WSUS by schedule or
by forcing a WSUS check (clicking the "Check for updates") finds no updates.
This is my first Vista machine so I have most likely missed something.
Any ideas please.
