Vista laptop screen brightness problem

ok so the other day i closed my computer so it would hibernate afte
like 3 hours i opened it and i was expecting it to start back up it di
but the screen was very dark and i could not see anything until i put
light up against it and i could barley see the thing u click to go to u
desktop so i clicked it and i got to my desktop and i could still barle
see the icons and stuff i tried turning it off and on and that did no
work so if you could help me i would appriciate it thank

How old is your laptop? It sounds like the backlight has blown. This ca
be repaired at a shop and will cost between 40-50 quid

Things to try first,

1. Plug your laptop into the mains. Laptop displays are brighter whe
plugged in

2. Press FN and the button that turns up the brightness. It may be th
8 or 9 key

If your laptop is under a year old return it to the shop where bought

my laptop is probably a year old or so and whats 40-50 quid is that
dollars? and i have tried that it didnt work so what should i do

quid is english slang for Pound stirling. I can not convert it into
dollars because it may cost a different amount in America.
