Vista laptop to TV?

Can anyone tell me if I can hook up my Dell Windows Vista laptop which was
purchased in 2008 to my Visio 47 inch TV and how? Thanks.

You'll need a lead

to go from your VGA output on the Dell to an input (VGA, DVI, S-Video etc.)
on your TV
power both up
set you laptop to send the video signal to an outside device, usually FN+F4
or similar
set TV to the port you have plugged the lead into
this will transfer the picture but not the sound
