It's worse than lousy. I really sucks. Get Agent Ransack. It's free and
fast. If it's on your PC, AR will find it.

That's strange: I've just spent a few minutes playing around with Search on
my Vista machine and it seems to work fine.

I tried:
*.jpg
*.gif
*.docx
*.doc (which also finds all the .docx files, unfortunately)
*.avi, and they all find just what I'd expect.

I tried *.blend, but there are no files with that extension on my machine.

Although this doesn't help you, at least you know that it *can* work
properly.

Translation: capin' crunch can't figure out how to use Vista's search so
he blames MS/Vista for his incompetence.

WDS works very well on Vista, but the search syntax has changed. For example:

To find all type of images, type kindictures
To find one type of file, type ext:jpg
To find two types of files, type extjpg OR png)
To exclude one type of image (jpeg), type kindictures -extjpg OR jpeg)
To find all types of videos, type kind:videos
To find file names containing the string "cat", type name:cat
To search file contents only for the complete word "cat", type contents:"cat"
And so on.

Basic WDS search syntax is shown in the Vista help screen "Tips for finding
files". Important details are found in the WDS 4 query guide:

one way that worked.
start box type basicsearch (no space)
this gives you a link to the advanced box.
click include non indexed.
then go to the TOP box NOT the advanced one and type say jpg. then it
found them.
yes i know it does not make sense but it worked on this hp computer
