vista mail contacts subfolders

I've read several comments regarding the problem I have found abou
using windows vista mail, all with the same result - no useful solution

Having just moved from Outlook Express, I am accustomed to using su
folders under contacts. I set up subfolders in Vista contacts but the
do not show up when I wish to forward an email using "To:" to selec
members of a folder, ie "family

How inconvenient to have to search through all 300 or so addresses t
find the 5 or 6 I want to forward to. "Family" is mixed in with all th
rest. Creating a group is inappropriate when I do not want to send t
ALL addresses in a group

Any news on a correction to this problem

Or, can someone suggest another mail program to handle this simpl
function

Or, is it possible to import Outlook from my XP system to use on thi
new one

The "work arounds" I have seen suggested are rediculous - this seems
serious flaw in the product to me

Any news of an improvement with SP2? (I have SP1 preinstalled

So far I find Vista NOT user friendly! Each problem requires hours o
research to discover there is no solution...:mad

Hi,

I wouldn't hold out much hope for any of the changes you mentioned.
Microsoft is dropping the mail client from the next version of Windows, and
is not making any effort to do any modifications to the existing one unless
it is a security concern.

Thanks Rick, time for me to start to advise (and help) all my clients to
move over to gMail.

What does MS suggest to replace their mail client with?

Hi,

I've not seen them make any recommendation other than their own Live Mail
program, which for me is unacceptable.

To simply keep a dozen or _more_ or _many_ contacts close at hand and easy
to find when you click on the "To:" field, so you can quickly pick the
"Usual Suspects". You can manually effect the sort order. Say you set
your To: line to show _first names then last_. Note: What shows in the To:
mail
list is varied in your contacts folder by putting the heading column you
want to show up in the mail list first in your (Left) columns. So if you
have 15 or 20 (or more) people that you email regularly but putting them in
groups would be, lets say _tricky_ or as you say "inappropriate". You can
add (edit) what I call an email sort ID or code in each contacts first name.
If you
use an asterisk (*) so now that both *Andy Smith and *Jane Goodman _who just
hate each other_ will come to the top of the mail list in alphabetical
order. Or you want *Jane Goodman in the list but always at the bottom not
in alphabetical order, edit her name so its .*Jane Smith with a stop/period
(.) and asterisk (*). To keep all the business's in your contacts at the
bottom of the contacts and at the same time filter out any personal contacts
pick a sort ID that will work. You can do similar types of things with
group _names_ to keep them filtered to a area of your choosing in
Contacts/To: mail list or not at all by using heading in your contact
folder. Once you began to understand how symbols, numbers and punctuation
marks affect sort order and fields for headers work, it comes in handy. You
can use multiples of (**) or
others to lower or raise the contacts in your list. You can add a New
contact file for the same contact mutable times so it shows up in different
areas. Want to cull your To: mail list of contacts of people or businesses
you rarely or never email or phone, they have no email address but do have a
phone, then edit those contacts by removing the information from the fields
that show up in the To: mail list and copy that information to the Note Tab
or put it in a more appropriate field when you edit those contacts. Yes the
(*) will show in the email you send out, (but so what) if anybody ever ask
why, just tell
them, its because they are so special. You can keep it from showing if you
think its important by deleting before you Send from the To: field or Cc:
Between the sort ID-ing and using column headings in the contact folder you
can keep the To: email list to your liking.
The sorting flows in every field in contacts and if used in a consistent
manner can be used to simplify exporting and importing among other things.
Using subfolders in your contacts folder can be useful as well. Say you
want a group more or less, but its one that you would only use once a year
like for Christmas emails and don't want it in your way in the To: email
list all year long. Create a New Folder in your contacts folder and copy
all those contacts you want to send Christmas Greeting to it. Don't use
your Contact Folder or any of its subfolders as catch alls for _other than_
..contact file types.
Note: Do not try to do this by renaming of a contact file, you have to do
this when you _edit_ or _create_ a contact.
Good luck
