Vista mail profiles

What ever happened to mail profiles?

In windows XP, i was able to create mail profiles, so that when i started
outlook 07, it would give me an option as to which account i was going to
use. As of Vista RC1 build 5600, this option appears to have been
extinguished.

This option was listed in the control panel, under user accounts.

The help section makes reference to this and explains that you have to have
outlook installed and to run the program more than once before the icon will
come up, but still there is no option.

The ability to create e-mail identities in Outlook Express, which allowed
multiple people sharing the same computer to keep their e-mail separate, has
been removed in Windows Mail. Instead, Windows Mail enables you to create a
separate Windows user accounts for each person who wants to use e-mail on a
single computer. If you're upgrading to Windows Mail from an Outlook Express
account that contains multiple e-mail identities, Windows Mail will
automatically launch a wizard to guide you through the process of importing
your previous e-mail identities into your current user account. This wizard
will launch each time Windows Mail is started until all identities have been
imported or deleted.

Thanks for your response nick,

however i was actually talking about while using microsoft office outlook
2007 rather than outlook express. There are indications in the help files of
outlook 2007 that the process that i am talking about is similar for that of
Windows XP. I have followed this process but have hit a wall. It says that
when outlook is installed, an icon should appear in the user accounts pane of
the control panel which allows you to create/edit mail profiles for the use
of outlook. Not Outlook express, and not windows mail. However this icon
has not appeared, even after several system restarts and multiple program
restarts. I prefer to use office outlook for its increased functionality!

This maybe a problem with my setup scenario, i am using Vista RC1 build 5600
64 bit edition and microsoft office 2007 beta. Perhaps the intergration of
these installations is not complete?

Any help with this matter is very much appreciated.

Another question about profiles. What if I have multiple e-mail
accounts and would like to decide which one I am going to access when I
start Windows Mail? From what I can tell, when I start up Windows Mail,
the (current) default account will come up. I guess that I could then
reset the default account, turn off Windows Mail, and then restart it?

Or is Windows Mail different from Outlook and is it possible to have
two different profiles open at the same time??

Please excuse the ignorance of my earlier post. I've now figured out
what I need to do, and will post this to help others who are having
similiar issues...

Although identities are no longer availalbe in Windows Vista, it is
possible to incorporate multiple e-mail accounts into one instance of
Windows Mail. When you do this, incoming e-mail messages from ALL of
your accounts will be downloaded when you do a Send/Receive All. All
you need to do to keep the e-mails from your multiple accounts straight
is create a separate folder (File->New->Folder) for each account, and
then create a Rule to route the incoming e-mails to the correct folder.

Here is another nice feature. When you are sending e-mails from a
Windows Mail client with multiple e-mail accounts, you get a nice little
"From" drop-down box so that you can choose which of your e-mail
accounts will be the "sender" of the message. Neato!

He wasn't asking about outlook express or windows mail but Outlook, th
one that comes with Office. I has different profiles that you can switc
to when you run it

as for the answer to the original question (yah it's an old thread bu
it's the first google response to "vista email profiles" still so
thought I'd put this here
