*vista memory upgrade*
I just bought a Compaq PC SR5110NX 3800 from Frys. It came ready to g
out of the box with Vista Basic. It came with 512 of RAM. I purchase
the correct Kingston 1 GB PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2. I confirmed this wa
correct from the Kingston website as well. When I installed the 1 GB an
started the computer, I received the following message

"Windows Resume Loade

Your system's memory configuration has changed since it entere
hibernation. If you proceed, the data needed to resume from hibernatio
will be lost. To preserve this data, turn off the system power, restor
the orginal memory configuration and reboot the system. Otherwise, pres
<enter> to delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu

Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu.

Anytime I have updated memory in the past I have never seen thi
message. I have a pretty simple understanding of computers and anytime
see a message with "restoration data" I'm worried to proceed. Th
computer was not in "hibernation mode" during the installation

I called Compaq and of course got someone in India. After doin
everything she told me to do, nothing worked, however, after 66 minutes
I asked her the question a different way and she told me to go ahead an
hit enter. Am I confused or scared of nothing? If I hit enter will
destroy some needed data or is it simply saying that the 512 MB memor
restoration data will be destroyed and updated with the new 1 GB

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Frustrated in Moon Valley

IF YOU HAD SHUTDOWN INSTEAD OF USINF SLEEP OR HIBERNATE, I DOUBT YOU'D HAVE
SEEN THAT.
BUT IF IT IS ONLY THE HIBERNATE INFO, IT;S NO BIG DEAL.

All that's going to do is delete the memory image from when the computer
went into hibernation. Since you now have more memory, the stored image
doesn't match. Windows will simply do a fresh bootup. When next you
hibernate, the hiberfil will be enlarged to match the new memory size.

All is OK, hit <enter> now and enjoy the improved performance.

This is because the system was sleeping when you swapped out the memory
rather than being shut down.

It is now attempting to resume and noticing that where it stored its sleep
information has vanished. Just hit enter, it'll probably go to the disk and
reload it into memory.

Worse case scenario is you'll lose whatever information you had unsaved in
the session before you sent the machine to sleep.
