Using the latest Media Player I have no sound playing DVD movies. Other
sounds such as music work and so do system sounds. I think somebody changed
settings and now No DVD sound at all. Realtek sound built in on Acer Laptop.
Checked devices and all seems normal. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try load these codecs..
Install the standard and, while installing, uncheck their media player

Try to play it with VLC ( 'Download VLC Media Player 1.0.2
FileHippo.com' (http://filehippo.com/download_vlc/) ). VLC can play mos
anything. I am more hesitant on the codec packs. You might want to rea
this before you venture into codec packs( 'Why Codec Packs Are Bad :

Get the AC3 decoder (filter) and I'm pretty sure than you will then hear
your DVDs.

I would look deeply into Media Player Settings before start thinking about reinstalling drivers like this guy http://annoyances-resolved.blogspot....em-solved.html . I know it could be quite challenging to deal with the Media Player Good luck.

Try downloading and installing K-Lite codec pack. It includes a media player
called Media Player Classic which I have found is the best media player.
After installing it go into control panel and open the Default Programs and
then open associate a file type or protocol with a program. In there change
all video files or movie files to Media Player Classic. After doing this
(there are about 34 altogether) go back to control panel and open Auto Play.
In here set all audio files to play with Windows Media Player. Then set all
video types to play with Media Player Classic. You should have no problem
after doing this.
