vista not booting, setup as slave, what files can i copy for boot

ok, this windows update got me and thousands of people with boot up problems.
so i setup my old drive as slave, and downloaded vista as master for booting
and data transfer. I could transfer my data, but i had a better idea. Why
cant I just transfer the good boot files onto the old drive, then all my
SETTINGS and PROGRAMS will be saved also. so my question to you smart people
is......
what files would i have to replace in vista ultimate x86 to make my old
drive boot properly. Is it that simple or am i just kidding myself?

Oh yeah, I am getting the unmountable boot error.....thanks!

I think that's wishful thinking that all you will have to do is copy a file
from your good boot copy to your bad boot copy. From your last comment it
sounds as if your system can't mount the old hard drive. Way back when,
before hard drives became Plug N Play and you had to go into the Bios and
enter data lke number of capacity, # of heads, cylinders, etc. for a drive,
new drives used to come with a utility floppy disk. I remember the program
for Maxtor drives used to be called Max Blast. One of the things this
utility disk did was mount the drive. My suggestion is that you contact
Support on the drive manufacturer's web site and explain the problem. I'm
sure they can provide you with a utility to mount your drive. I doubt that
the information contained in a file from your new drive will contain the
pertinent data for your old drive (like where data begins, ends, etc. even if
they have things in common like they are both NTSF, 7200 RPM, PATA, etc.)

Have you tried running EasyBCD or VistaBootPro and add the original Vista
version to the boot menu?

hmmmm, Id add this to my master booting drive? I think i even bought the
vista boot pro.... do you know the steps I would take to do this?

I will try this.... if they provide me with a utility, I will be able to keep
my data?

You don't buy it. Go to http://www.vistabootpro.org/ Go to a panel
something like add/remove entries (I use EasyBCD so I don't know the exact
words in VistaBootPro) Go to add an entry section and add the entry for
your first Vista. Check the download site for instructions and forums.
