I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS on a 24" HP w2448hc display
(http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en...7-3733149.html).

The webcam and mike are built into the display and located at the top middle
part of the display. I installed the display drivers. However, when I
opened Skype and try adjusting the video settings, the Webcam is not
detected. On the other hand, when I hooked up a Creative Technologies'
external webcam to my PC, Vista detected it at once even though I didn't
even installed the Creative drivers.

How do I activate the built-in webcam? Thks for help

I'm using a HP Pavilion Elite m9398d PC, with Duo Core Quad 9300 2.5 GH,
GeForce 9600 GS with 4mb RAM.

Check the manual that came with the monitor and/or the support web site for
instructions on connecting the camera and installing any needed drivers and
follow those instructions.

The HP support pages for the HP w2448hc mention the webcam and microphone as
features on "select models". Have you followed the instructions on pages
4-10 and 4-11 to install the separate drivers and software for the Cyberlink
Youcam?

What cable do you use to connect the Webcam and mike? They will not work
over a VGA or DVI cable.

Have you verified the device is not being detected by viewing the Devic
Manager? Look for unknown or other hardware with a yellow exclamatio
mark on it..

Control Panel -> System & Maint -> Device Manage

If you find it listed by name in there, Right Click -> Properties -
Driver Tab -> Update Driver and point it to where the drivers ar
located (either an uncompressed directory on your PC if you downloade
them or a CD/DVD

I do have a similar problem with my built in aveo webcamera in a belinea
o.book 4 running Vista 32 bit Home Premium. It used to work and was
recognized. Afterwards I installed the optional "Simplo Webcam Driver"
from Microsoft update. Since then, Vista doesn't recognize the existence
of a camera at all. There is also no possibility to roll back the driver
(the device it concerns doesn't appear in the device manager), and
system restore doesn't work either, the simplo webcam driver stays among
the installed updates.

Any more ideas?

I'm using an HP Pavilion DV2415 notebook and the Simplo driver did n
harm to my built-in webcam. (I don't think it improved anything) I
fact, I can select it in Skype and it works just fine. (QuickPlay work
fine too) I have no idea why the driver was issued to so many differen
types of systems though. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 with an AM
Turion 64 x2 dual core CPU and 2gb of RAM

I had the same problem with my monitor. Turns out that you have to plu
the supplied usb cable into the monitor and to the pc. This activate
the monitor usb slots, the mic and the camera.

Hope this help

here is the solution that I found out after 4 months of facing the same
problem and no response or help from countless contacts with the HP
support

Simplo webcam update from 'Microsoft windows update' was installed
a.k.a.
*_PCT_-_Streaming_Media_and_Broadcast_-_Simplo_Webcam_*,
this update messed up the webcam entry in device manager by removing the
imaging device from the list and there is no way to uninstall this
update.

Here is the solution:
-open device manager
-expand usb controllers list
-select 'Simplo webcam' device and press uninstall. Check box 'Also
delete driver'.
-press the button 'detect hardware changes'. A new imaging device will
appear as 'Ricoh webcam. Repeat previous steps for this device in order
to delete it as well. Press again the button 'detect hardware changes'.
The correct device 'HP Webcam' will appear in the list. Webcam is now
ready for use.
*_
PS:_NEVER_EVER_INSTALL_PCT_-_Streaming_Media_and_Broadcast_-_Simplo_Webcam,_IT_IS_FAULTY_*
