Please help, I think I have dug myself into a big hole
There were bad virus issues I could not get on top with (CA Securit
Suite did not do its job) and I decided to re-format the HDD
Vista seemed to install fine
"Copying Windows files
"Expanding files
"Installing features
"Installing updates
till the last step "Completing installation" - where it needed t
reboot
It powers down ok but when it trys to boot again it freezes at a blac
screen with the message "press any key to boot from CD or DVD"
I have tried to turn the system on and off several times but can't ge
beyond the "press any key message"
What can I do to get the Vista installation finalised

Motherboard Intel DG33T
Processor Core2 Duo E655
Hard Drive Seagate 320 GB Sata
Optical LG 18x Sata Dua
USB keyboard - there is no PS2 por
OS Vista Home Premiu

Thank you heaps for your help

Go into the bios and remove the DVD drive from the boot options temporarily.
The system will not look for it and you should be able to boot off the hard
drive.

After you have successfully booted to the Desktop the first time, remove the
disk and reboot. Again enter the bios and restore your DVD drive as a boot
option. Make sure it is "prior" to looking for the hard drive.

::Hi Richard, thanks heaps for trying to help.:
::I couldn’t find a way in BIOS to disable the DVD drive so
disconnected the cable from the drive and after rebooting BIOS is no
reporting CD/DVD Drive \"No Optical Drive\". So far so good.:
::Unfortunately the pc does still not boot. Remember the origina
installation of Vista was never completed. :
::All I get now is a black screen with the cursor blinking top left. :

Hi,

Sounds like the hard drive has a damaged boot sector, so it's not being seen
by the system BIOS. Reconnect the optical drive, follow the steps here:

When it asks to press any key to boot from CD, do nothing... it will then
boot from the HDD after a few seconds

The problem that comes up lately is if the system drive is greater than 2TB.
In that case it must be initialized as GPT volume, not MBR. One way to get
arround this problem is to keep the system volume under 2TB.

Another cause of the problem might be if you installed Vista into logical
drive of extended partition. This is not supported. Install Vista in a
primary partition.

Some other likely causes of the problem:
- third party boot managers
- Protected boot sector (write disabled), either in BIOS or thru antivirus.
