Vista + Nvidia graphics

I have 2 Vista machines with Nvidia GPUs. One is 64-bit and the other is
32-bit. Drivers for both are up-to-date more or less - one is an HP laptop
and I'm using the latest they provide. Both machines run Aero Glass. The
Vista performance ratings are 4.8 and 4.5.

The display on both machines is very 'washed out' compared to any XP machine
I've used. In a lot of cases, the borders around dialog edit boxes is next
to impossible to see.

Do other people have this problem?

I think you are referring to the "Theme" which makes things like
highlighted newsgroup headings merge into the surrounding areas, if that
is what you mean then yes, me too.

I don't think this is a Vista or video card driver problem, just a theme
designer with appalling taste and total inconsideration for anyone who
has to spend time in front of it.

Did you try the Windows Classic theme?

These things appear to be fixed, ie not adjustable or editable aside
from changing the theme.

Go into the nVidia control panel (either from Windows control panel or via
display properties via Personalisation) and turn up digital vibrance.

It's disabled on the laptop. I've used it on the other machine before but
the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. (I'm 900 miles away from the other
machine at the moment...)

Even with twiddling all the knobs, I can't seem to get a display that is
anywhere close to pleasing.
