I was going to write a message about this too, but you beat me to it. I hid
my OE update by right-clicking it and selected HIDE. It worked.

BUT, here's the thing. I like Windows, and even Vista (when it actually
allows me to open the Control Panel) and I've used Windows from the start.
However, I'm starting to believe the Mac people and the Linux folks. This
Outlook Express update for Vista is an example of confusion and lack of
explanation. No doubt there will be Microsoft MVPs (who are great) who will
rationalize the need for the OE update, just as they rationalized the
Outlook 2003 junk mail filter update for me when I don't even have Outlook
2003 installed. In other words, I think Microsoft customers are constantly
in a state of "What The Hell Is This???" mode, and we never get clear
consistent answers.

OK, enough. I'll get slammed for this. But I still think that MS needs to
think in "real world" terms instead of their cryptic, computer-slang, and
confusing error messages and inconsistent explanations.

If you research it a bit it's for Outlook Express and Windows Mail and it's
common to XP and Vista.

MS07-034 (929123) is a Critical Security Update for Outlook Express *and*
Windows Mail, the default Mail Client in Vista > MS Outlook requires the
presence of Windows Mail to work properly > Install 929123.

Not a problem. I truly enjoy working with Windows, I'll never
switch......... you know the story. However, I looked again at the Outlook
Express update and it simple reads OE update for Vista. Now, I know that
added research and reading newsgroup messages would have informed me of the
application to Windows Mail too, but that's not what it said. Many people
looking at the update would have simply assumed it was an OE update for
Vista, shrugged, and moved on.

Perhaps I'm just expecting too much -- like clarity. By the way, I do have
about 7 hidden updates for Outlook 2003 on my Vista, and I don't have
Outlook 2003 installed -- just the other components of the suite. Sorry
that I don't understand.

I agree with you completely. There are many areas where Microsoft could
improve communication. This is one and the most obvious one to me is when
you click on the web link for an event in the Event Viewer and find...zilch,
quite often, or else something that only a space engineer would understand.

I was a devoted PC user since 1985 and I know Windows.

At birthday time a friend I respect has been using Macs for several years
took pity on me when I had a computer identity theft. He bought me a Mini
Mac. The size is only 6 inches by 6 inched by 2 inches. Very roughly about
the size of 5 CD cases (Powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor.) I set the mac
up but kept using my Dell P4 processor Windows XP 2nd Ed) but not for long.

I bought a router so that my Dell and Mac both had internet access to my
cable modem. Now using the Mac and some Mac software and I'm totally
convinced that Mac is the only way to go. I installed Norton 10 Antivirus
but in all this time it never had to be used. There just not any
"in-the-wild" virus's, worms, trojans, etc. It comes with some amazing
programs. You can just buy the MiniMac and use your own keyboard, display and
mouse.

I was so devoted to a PC, what a surprise I now prefer a Mac. Still I do
have a Dell Dimension just in case.

I have to reboot the PC two times a week or more. The Mac Mini never needs a
reboot. Every help file is in understandable English. I call Apple at any
time during the day or night and reach a real, live person who has the
answers. (Imagine trying to reach Microsoft on the first ring of the phone
and getting an answer from a tech who is happy to help~!) Suggest getting the
extended warranty, the largest drive you can afford with the Super CD drive.
(But the extended warrantee

It makes me feel safe and it makes me feel competent at the new apps. If
someone wants a Mac but can't give up on Windows, there are two products out
there that let you run your Mac on your PC and another to run your PC on your
Mac.
