ATTENTION: due to the performance improvements these tips aren't for
persons suffering of dizziness

Tip #1: adjust the Visual Effects following these steps:

1. Go to Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced system settings
2. Click on the Advanced tab
3. Under Performance click on Settings
4. Under Visual effects, choose "Adjust for best performance"
5. Change the same setting to Custom
6. Enable "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" setting
7. Enable "Show thumbnails instead of icons" setting

Tip #2: disable Counters and Trace Events following these steps:

1. Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Reliability and
Performance Monitor
2. Under Monitoring Tools, Performance Monitor, remove any Counter if
any
3. Open the Data Collector Sets branch
4. Under Trace Events Sessions, for every single trace record, except
the EventLog ones, right click and stop it
5. Under Startup Event Trace Sessions, for every single trace record,
except the EventLog ones, right click, properties and disable it

Comment - the first of these tips makes the display text look something
out of MSDOS. Although performance /may/ improve, it feels like you have
transported back a decade or two.
