hi thanks to all those who replied to my post,using the links sent by joe
which pointed to help topics by brink i have made a good improvement to the
performance of my laptop most helpfull was the topic on registry defrag which
has improved my performance 21% also configuring my hard drives for optimal
performance has helped ,i have also disabled all unused software and as many
services as i dare.Basically i have configured my laptop to my own personal
needs not the "please everyone all the time"way it is shipped to the user
..Thanks again to everyone who offered advice especially brink who has taken
the time to wright his help topics for the benefit of home users

Glad to hear you've made an improvement. I'll just add one point:
disabling unused software can not help your performance in any way.
The only software that can affect your performance is the software
that is *running*.

You may improve the performance of your paging file with a 2GB USB stick
for Ready Boost. With the specs of your system you will have to have
patience. If you temporarily installed a Core Meter, you would see that
your CPU will constantly run at close to 100% on both cores - even my
quad core does that on all 4 cores with video editing.
