There are a lot of messages scattered around the boards on potential fixes to
this problem.

Does anyone have one that works that doesn't involve doing a system restore?

I tried the chkdsk fd idea, didn't work. I can't get Vista started, so
anything that involves the "start" menu won't work. I can get to DOS, so
anything from the C: prompt could be tried.

If someone from MS is out there, help would be appreciated since your own
update is causing the crashes.

Thanks.
