Fails to start, stops unexpectedly. Whatever. I hate Vista. Sorry.

I have a Vista machine that is reporting an error with the print spooler. I
can look at Services in the Task Manager and see that the spooler is
stopped. I can right-click and start it, but after a few moments it will
stop again. I cannot load the printer driver or select a printer, or add a
new printer because any action that I make results in the notification that
the print spooler is not running and I must start it before I can continue.
I found the spoolsrv.exe file, and it passes a virus scan.

The machine was running normally, and my wife was actively printing
something with her color laserjet printer, the printer made a banging noise
and the print spooler message came up shortly afterward. There are no lights
on the printer to report a problem inside of the box, although I have not
opened the box to see if the paper path is clear. Typically, if there was a
paper jam, the lights would be blinking and the error would be from the
printer not the print spooler in the OS.

I'm not sure where to look within Vista to find the file that is not happy
with whatever I am doing.
