Vista printer settings return to default each logon

I have a perplexing problem. The scenario...

Every morning one particular Vista user (out of approximately 75) has to
reset her default printer. Once reset she is fine for the day. She will
log off and leave for the day. Later, she will connect to our network via
VPN, use Remote Desktop to reach her office PC, and log in. She doesn't try
to print since she's working remotely. The following morning (or next time
in the office) she will log onto her desktop locally and the default printer
will be reset to the first printer in the list.

The environment...

Vista SP1 on the desktop. Windows Server 2003 SP2 on the server side with
all network printers LAN attached with a Windows Server 2003 file server as
their print server. Group Policies are used, however no settings have been
configured that have anything to do with printers. So far, this is the only
user that has this problem. We have a number of other Vista users who do
not.

Any suggestions where to look?

Thanks!

I had the same problem: default printer resetting sporadically. After
a bit of research, I found a post that accurately describes my problem
and a workaround.

I can reproduce the issue at will using remote desktop. The issue is
the RD client is sharing its printers. That tells the Vista RD server
to add new printers (and a new default). Once the RD client
disconnects, one would expect the original default printer to be
restored - but it is not!.

The workaround is to disable the Printers option in the Local
Resources tab of the RD connection window (before clicking Connect).

I still think this is a defect that needs a permanent resolution.
