Vista problem - deleted items returning to desktop

Despite deleting items off the desktop and then emptying the trash, everytime
we log back in - the items return.

Also - cannot save anything to my documents - only to desktop.

Any ideas what we can do to fix this?

Sounds like a file permission problem. For some reason Vista is not saving
your profile when you log off. There are other things that can cause this
behaviour.

The "My Documents" folder in Vista is only a virtual link meant to
automatically redirect items to the new Vista "Documents" folder. Try saving
straight to the "Documents" folder.

You Profile may be corrupted. Try a new one, and copy the data to it from
the old one.

The prior responses may well be right, but I have found a number of
applications that recheck for that desktop icon each time they are updated
or triggered by some other event and just add the icon each time it does not
find one. I had one program that did it every time it was run. On some I
was able to dig down through the settings and could turn off that "feature"
One or two I just totally deleted off my machine.
