My old DVD burner broke so i installed a new one. Now vista's saying that due
to hardware changes it needs to re-activate, but that my product key is in
use... Well yeah, of course it is because i'm using it? Or could this be
because originally I installed vista-ultimate on my PC 64 bit. Got
frustrated, reformatted and installed 32 bit and now the 64 bit one is using
my key though i wiped it? I've never had windows need to reactivate just
cause i swapped out my DVD drive.

What the heck is going on?

What I've learned from this group (havent had to do it personally) is that
in a situation like this, talk to a human being on the activation line.
Explain your situation and you should be reactivated with no problem. Or so
I've heard.

You could look it up.

Actually, I don't know it, but I assume it's given as an option when you go
to reactivate. Or maybe some helpful soul on this newsgroup might have it.

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
(w/o the quotes) in the Start Search box in the Start Menu and pressing
Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

I tried to look it up online myself and could only come up with this: "*
Toll-free telephone numbers are available in all countries whose telephony
infrastructures provide for them. The telephone numbers to call are
displayed when telephone activation is chosen."

So, as I said before, when you go to activate, it will show up as an option,
along with the number.

Choose the option to activate by phone.
The appropriate phone number for your region will be displayed on the
screen.
Usually done in less than 10 minutes.
