No. You can throttle back Vista some but not that much. Vista is not just
a super-Vista. It is a new version of Windows and it uses a great deal more
resources than XP. What do you need to do that requires so much adjustment?

I don't know if you can get Vista to use as little resources as a 7 yea
old operating system like XP, but you can shut off Aero by simpl
right-clicking your desktop, selecting Personalize, Window Color an
Appearance, Open classic appearance properties for more color options
and selecting Windows Vista Basic. This will render the desktop the sam
way as XP, although I doubt this will do anything for performance a
Aero is rendered by your video card, and may actually make your Vist
experience faster than if Aero were disabled

As for not using as many system resources overall, I doubt it'
possible without breaking a few things, but it won't slow you down i
your laptop is good enough. SuperFetch will cache your commonly use
apps so RAM doesn't get wasted as it would in XP

The notebook comes with Vista only.
Does it possible configure/adjust Vista Home and to disable all so called
"bells and whistles", turn off visual effects, etc and to decrease Vista
system resources use for the same level as Windows XP? (not more than Win
XP) Without breaking main functionality and usability.

I.e. Vista must not use more system resources than Windows XP (CPU
resources, disk space usage)

thanks.

Why not just stay with XP if it is XP that you want?

Useful work?

Reminds me of a car my cousin used to have. Metallic gold Superbeetle
convertible WITH a two speed automatic and an air conditioner. By the time
that little 1600cc four banger got through spinning the transmission and
driving the air conditioner there wasn't lots left over for useful work
like going _uphill_

Now imagine that your brand new quad core Intel is a 1600cc air cooled
horizontally opposed four cylinder, and Vista is the gold Volkswagen
convertible wrapped around it...

Lol. And just where do you think prefetch is caching those
commonly used apps?

That's true - but all recent laptops comes with Vista, and even FreeDOS
isn't accessible anymore. Laptop support Windows XP, but if I remove Vista,
I loss a Warranty as the service center does not support a warranty on
laptops where it original operating system has been replaced.

If you ensure that the laptop has 2gb RAM, you may be surprised at how well
Vista can perform..
