I have a customer with a new notebook computer with Vista.
The activation took and is good. But everytime the computer starts and
several times during use the Registration Nag pops up. We have filled out
the Registration and submitted it with "Successful submition" response. But
the nag keeps going. How can the nag be disabled or registered in the system
as done?

Vista has been successfully registered at least 30 times now and still nags.

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
(w/o the quotes) in the Start Search box in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

But, it's already been activated. His problem is the *registration*
process.

Are you sure it is a Vista nag and not a nag for some other software; Office
perhaps or something else? Registration of Vista is not required. Does the
nag offer a means to decline and have an option not to be reminded again?
Most legitimate nags of this type have that option.

Is the user using any sort of third party disk cleanup utility that might
have removed a setting that tells the system the specified software has
already been registered? Is the system connected to an always on Internet
connection? If yes, ask the user to disconnect, reboot and see if he
continues to receive this nag. If no, it's coming from the outside, is he
using a firewall, has he scanned his system for viruses and malware?

The nag says it will register Vista with Microsoft. Yes there is a means to
decline and not be reminded, does no good.

We were getting the nags before any third party cleanup utilities were used.
It is a notebook, no it isn't always connected. Brand new system thoroughly
scanned and firewalled (3rd party) but done after the nags began. This is on
a Toshiba Satelitte I don't have it in front of me to give model number. On
first start customer followed all the initial prompts and answered all the
questions.
