Vista Registry

There is a link for activities on the Registry for XP and previous Windows,
but I cannot find one for Vista.

Will someone (with more knowhow than I) please advise me either what is the
link, or tell me how to make a backup of the Registry.

If I make a backup and then whilst removing unwanted files make a mistake,
how do I activate the Backup? Will the activation of backup also restore the
removed files?

Huh?

Are you talking about System Restore? It's listed under All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools.

If you need a third-party backup, Google "erunt".

Neither System Restore nor Erunt will protect you from making a
mistake when deleting files.

Don't rely on Regedit to do a backup of a complete registry.
I have found it's ok to use Regedit to backup individual keys but not a complete registry.

As Nonny recommends, use Erunt.
I have used this small application for years, with both XP and Vista.
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

The best feature is it can make a daily backup limited to a month.
That means you can always go back to any day in the last 30 days.

(This program is not for file backup, just the registry.)

Many thanks for the link. However the Erunt web is so complicated that I
failed to find the download. Which heading do you download from?

You really _do_ need to learn how to use Google:

I Googled "erunt".

This was the third in the list, and the first to mention "download":

There is a big box on the left with a large title 'ERUNT'.
Then there is some writing underneath that.

At the top of the next box under the first box it says ' Download ERUNT'

Click on Server 1
OR click on Server 2
OR click on Server 3.

I guess we are all learners once. :-)
I suppose it is a bit silly putting a link to the host website right next to the download link.

If you are finding this too complicated then I don't think you are safe editing your registry.

You will just give yourself more problems.

Forget it.
