Vista screen freezes

I am using Vista Ultimate. Whenever I re-boot, for about half an hour the
whole screen freezes about two or three times. Each time it lasts for almost
exactly 30 seconds.
What is cassing it and is there anything I can do about it? It's not fatal,
just a bit of a pain!
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

What are your system specs, processor, memory, video memory and does the
graphics card share memory with main system memory or does it have its own
onboard memory.

Have you check your graphics card manufacturer's website to make sure you
have the latest Vista compatible drivers for your card.

Is your computer a desktop or laptop; if a laptop might the computer be
using its power saving mode.

Did you upgrade this computer from XP to Vista, clean install or install
over XP and what other applications do you have installed and have you made
sure they are all Vista compatible and/or have appropriate updates.

IMHO, given the original promises of Vista/Longhorn, these sort of
things you listed should NEVER have been an issue.

It is a 3 month old Dell desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate. Processor is
Intel Core 2 6400 2.13GHz. It has 4GB if RAM. Not sure I understand the rest
of your questions??! Sorry am not really technical

I can't say whether or not this is related but Vista 32-bit as opposed to
the 63-bit version does not support 4GB of RAM though. Did this system come
from Dell with 4GB of RAM or did you install additional RAM after you
received the computer?

The other questions are critical as well. When I refer to hardware that
includes your graphics card, soundcard, any other internal devices and
external devices such as printer, scanner and/or anything else you connect
to the computer. These devices require drivers in order to properly
communicate with the system. Incorrect drivers or devices connected to the
system without drivers might cause problems for the system.

Since this is a Dell, they usually have a place online at their website
wherein they provide the necessary drivers for their hardware or where you
can find links to appropriate drivers. As to external devices, you would
need to check the websites of the various manufacturers of your hardware
devices to first determine if the devices you have are Vista compatible and
whether or not the manufacturer is supporting the device with Vista
compatible drivers.

Just to clarify, there are instances where a computer can be configured to
use 4GB of RAM with Vista and the following knowledge base article explains
it:

It should be noted however, this only applies to specific hardware running
Vista 32-bit and some system BIOS's may not support the function.
