Vista Screensaver not working on new laptop?

Hi
I bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista basic on it. The screensaver
would not work. Contacted Dell with no fix in sight. Did a clean install of
Vista without all the other software and updated the drivers. Still will not
work with a usb mouse or just the touch pad.
Also, when you click on personlize, then screensaver, the tab opens up
behind the one that is open, not on top?
Any ideas?

Restart your computer, then download and install the
following updates:

An update is available that improves the compatibility
and reliability of Windows Vista:

Thanks for the Reply
I tried what you suggested, and still the same problems.
Screensaver does not work even the preview just flashes by.
New taskbar buttons open behind the original.
Any other ideas?

John here, customer advocate at Dell headquarters.

The only thing I can think of is that something is interfering with th
screen saver, perhaps a program or an input device malfunction. Is thi
the only symptom you're seeing?

I would first try to activate the screen saver after clean booting a
described in the following article:

'How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background program
from interfering with a game or a program that you currently use
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796)

If the screen saver kicks in there, you know that something you'r
filtering out in clean boot is the culprit. If that's the case, us
method 3 as described in the article to fix the problem.

If you need any help, let me know:

I am having he same problem, and I tried both suggestions. Neithe
worked. I was told that the upgrade does not apply to my computer, an
the clean boot only resulted in my computer booting faster

Still no screensaver and power save mode. It won't turn off th
display, and will not go to sleep

Btw, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501, and this problem did not start til
two days ago. This is just one more of a string of problems that
have had with this thing, and Dell has ot offered me any solution
other than to give them more money. Seriously, do NOT get a Dell. I a
sorry that I did. :mad

What suggestions? You didn't quote anything from the post you are
replying to and the thread DIED LAST AUGUST.

The vast majority of people seeing your post are NOT users of the
web-based forum that you are using. They have no idea what you are
talking about.

I posted directly to the website, and it happened to post to here as well.
Not my fault, wound't you admit??

Anyways.... The "suggestions" have been stated all over this forum.
Neither trying to download some update pertaining to wireless mice
conflicting with screensavers, nor trying the Clean Boot have worked for me.

It should be pointed out here that I do NOT have a wireless mouse.

Now, does anyone have any suggestions, or had similar experiences?

Mr Montgomery: if you have neither, please resist the temptation to reply
back with an abusive post. I don't see why people feel the need to post such
things. Try to help people, not hinder them.

Thank you.

He was trying to help you--help you get responses to your problem. If you
post your problem by replying to a year-old thread, you need to at least
quote the thread, but even that is bad form cuz it is kinda lazy.

Better to begin your own current thread with a comprehensive narrative of
your problem. Otherwise you will get no response.

Whatever. You people don't seem to get the fact that I did not post directly
to this site. It was transferred over!!!

Anyways... It's quite clear that there are no solutions to my problem. It
is yet again clear evidence that Vista is RUBBISH.

I will just dream of buying a MAC one day!
