I installed the updates today (1-8-08) and my Vista would just flash a blue
screen and re-boot. It has done it on two computers. I inserted Vista DVD
and choose "repair". It repaired both. I won't be installing the updates
though.

I do not quite understand what you mean? What do you expect Vista to do
after an update? I would expect it to flash a blue screen and reboot. What
else? What the hell is going on?

Where is the freaking problem?

You expect people to read your mind across the state lines which is a
Federal offense.

Why don't you explain everything in minute detail. Is it a new machine? Did
you buy it? Got from a friend or whatever?

My hunch is that you should shut it off with the power button, reboot,
download Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) v.2.1 beta (Vista
version)

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../mbsahome.mspx

Run it, you will have a lot of fun reading what your machine is lacking.
Download ALL updates MBSA recommends and shut up.

Vista clean installed? No added programs?

Sounds like a bad install or damaged/misconfigured hardware.

Ok, Guess you did not read my previous post. It is a 1 month old laptop
with a one week old clean install of Vista and with a one week old clean
install of Linux. (dual boot) I updated Vista today and when the computer
rebooted it got a flash of the BSOD and would then re-start. You could not
boot into Windows at all, no safe mode etc. Linux worked fine. It was at
this point that I inserted Vista DVD and had to repair. Being hardheaded
once it was up and running I tried the updates again...SAME result. It is
the updates that are causing the problem.

Don't pay any attemtion to alexB, his mommy just bought him his new Vista
computer a month ago and he thinks he knows it all.......

Anyway, (this doesn't pertain to Vista but), an update that was pushed to
XP machines yesterday killed QuickBooks 2008 as well. The bookkeeper had
to un-install 2 updates that came down and then QB worked no problem.

Just another good reason not to have auto-updates set to install no
matter what OS you are using.
