Microsoft is now offering a Vista Service Pack 1 {English} DVD in North
America. A link to order is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...vista/sp1.mspx

In Michigan the cost is about $10 USD including Airborne shipping, handling
and tax.

Or have a friend with a DVD burner and appropriate applications download the
DVD ISO image and burn you a copy or a dozen and hand them out like candy:

Before anyone asks, ignore this part of the page; "DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF
YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER" <-- Having the DVD ISO for the installer
for Vista SP1 for x86/x64 is not a bad thing and it won't hurt anything. I
guess they are trying to save the bandwidth.

Hello.

I posted the order link for people you may need the DVD {which as far as I
know just became available} because for various reason downloading either
the stand alone installer or ISO image is not feasible.

If you do not need the DVD, you can just not use the link.

In my case SP-1 from Windows Update fails at 18% during Stage 1. After
several days of support, Microsoft Vista SP-1 support recommended that I
download the stand alone installer and try to install SP-1 after a clean
boot. The only broadband connection that I have available is my own. The
problem is that my ISP has a download limit less the the file size of either
the stand alone installer or the ISO. When that limit is reached, download
speed drops to near dialup for 24 hours and the Microsoft server terminates
the download. Vista SP-1 support recommended that I order the DVD as soon as
it became available.

Not everyone has the same limits as your ISP gives you - or they may have
friends/family members/co-workers/etc that could download and burn the DVD
for them.

Therefore - it makes sense to post BOTH the method of ordering the DVD and
downloading the DVD and letting the millions upon millions who may see this
posting in a Google search in the years to come decide what they might like
to do.
