I am having a problem with my vista sidebar. It loads up initially just fine
but then all of a sudden a constant repetition of the calendar option stats,
it stops when it goes like 40something pages deep (I think that is the
limit). I tried deleting the ini file, and it just regenerated with the same
problem. If I try to close them sidebar crashes and it takes windows with it.
I'm running Vista Ultimate with 4gb of ram if that matters.

Have you tried exiting the Sidebar, start it back then readd the Gadgets?

it didn't help. upon restart they instantly added themselves again.

It takes a few seconds after it starts but it seems to do it without fail.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

This should repair/replace any corrupted system files.

If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

1. Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator
2. CD to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ( cd drive letter:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 atl.dll
4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

And start up the side bar

Ahhhaaaaaaaaaaa,
I got it to work. Thanks for your instructions, after a modification to them
I was able to get it to work. What i did was:
1. 1. Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator
2. CD to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ( cd drive letter:\Program
Files\Windows Sidebar )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 -u atl.dll
4. leave command prompt open in the background and opened computer->C: drive
and browsed to C:\users\<current username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Sidebar\ and deleted settings.ini
4. Now back in command promp regsvr32 atl.dll
5. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
