Vista 32 bit
Home Premium SP1
1 GB ram

start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore, or from
desktop shortcut created from same entry,

When opening system restore, it takes, by the clock, almost 3 minutes to
open.
Also happens in safe mode.

That which I have tried:
sfc /scannow

Tested ram with MemTest86 for > 8hr; passed.

Tested HDD with HDD [ WD SATA; 160 GB ] diags; passed.

I am helping a friend, who said the laptop, HP Pavillion dv6245 was slow.

I uninstalled Ad Aware 2008. Now, the only slowness I have been able to
uncover is opening the system restore interface.

Thanks for your help.

You would get much better performance with 2 gig of RAM. I no longer see
any Vista computers in the stores that have only 1 gig installed. You just
need more and RAM is cheap right now.

I agree that more ram is better, but I find it difficult to understand why 1
GB provided acceptable performance 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for your comment.

Would have helped immensely if you had posted this additional tidbit in your
original question!

How much free space is left on your hard drive? What new program/programs
have you installed just prior to the problem manifesting itself? What older
programs did you recently update/upgrade?

Even if you find the culprit you still need more RAM for Vista Home Premium.
One gig does not equal a good computing experience with Home Premium!

R U:
I apologize for not clearly stating the situation.

> 80 GB free of 160 GB total. NTFS

I agree that the PC needs more ram.

The problem began after Ad-Aware 2008 failed to update.

I have subsequently uninstalled A-A 2008. I have not re-installed A-A 2008
or any substitute.

No known new programs installed.

AVG free probably updates daily.

The problem persists.
