hey peeps..

Vista is slow... there is no two ways about it... I congratulate you If
your one of the lucky ones who has it working nice with everything.

Specs for this pc - compaq laptop, 1.7 celeron, 256mb graphics, 1gig ram,
came from the shop with vista enabled etc.

So far it takes ages to do everything. Im not interested in upgrading, why
would I want to when I have a desktop pc with bout same specs along with my
buddies laptop of same specs also running XP home edition on both.... AND
BOTH BEAT THE CRAP OUTTA THIS VISTA OS ON *EVERYTHING*.

Someone explain that.. And dont mention upgrades or programs installed or
uninstalled or spyware hack crap or that they havnt had any probs cos Im not
interested. I want an answer.

There have been HUGE amounts of posts about people being unhappy about
vista so Its not just me. If we can -Download- AND play -dawn of war- AND
-listen to music- on both our other machines then why not vista.

And once again dont mention upgrades or programs installed or uninstalled
or spyware hack crap or that they havnt had any probs cos Im not interested.

I just hope microsoft sort this crap soon cos we pay thru the teeth for
software like this and I spent all my hard earned cash from my job buying
this and now Im skint as fek and CANNOT afford these mistakes from a
MULTIBILLIONAIR corperation.

No, you obviously do not want an answer, the above proves it.

You just want to whine and now you have, feel better?

Hey Ana--

Make sure you do what it takes to make it as fast as possible. It would be
faster if you upgraded your hardware, but you can still make it run very
decently with what you have.

Speed PC and Control CPU Tips/Steps

SPEED AND CPU:

_______________

1) Trim processes you don't need in TM. Google them or "search engine of

your choice them" if you have to.

2) Go to

services.msc in run box and turn off services not needed and there are some.

3) Run System File Checker.

SFC: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

In Vista run it from an elevated command prompt. Right click command on

start and run as administrator.

4) Run 3 or so spyware scans Windows Defender, , Adaware, and Spybot

5) Probably the most important for speed consistently and efficient resource

use DEFRAG with www.raxco.com or www.diskeeeper.com with 15% free space on

drive if DK and or >5% if Raxco's Perfect Disk.

http://groups.msn.com/windowsxpcentral/spyware.msnw

Download Adaware and

Spybot from here.

6) Unck items from msconfig start tab you don't need starting and some

won't start--peoiple who think just uncking for many are naive because there

are 12 places things can be started including several reg keys like Run Once

keys and there are serveral.

7) Turn off Messaging service--it's a security vulnerability and it slows

you

8) Defrag very often every other day actually.

9) Turn off indexing.

10) Clear TIF and %temp% files (delete) and go to safe mode to get as many

as u can.

10) Do troubleshooting with msconfig.

11) Do Clean boot with msconfig utility and search for the directions here:

Vista RTM Tweak Guide (Tweaks to Improve Performances)

http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...tm+tweak+guide

1) Task Manager lists the services on the services tab in Vista.

2) Type services.msc in run box and using the list of services, click the

service and you'll get a description of services.

3) There is a list here of the default services and a description>>click

"default settings for services" in the left pane.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

4) To view service dependencies

1.

Open Services.

2.

In the details pane, right-click the service that you want to view

dependencies for, and then click Properties.

3.

Click the Dependencies tab.

4.

To view services that are associated dependencies of the selected service,

in the list on the Dependencies tab, click the plus sign next to the

service.

Many of the services but not all in Vista are the same as in XP, so in that

context:

Defragging with a decent defrag every day will make a huge dent inefficient

Vista.

Good luck,

Because people like me who have taken advantage of the WEI and now my Vista
runs like lightning and of course I am not going to waste my time going
around posting how great it is and most people who are happy with Vista knew
what to do and now that is up to you. YOUR CALL!!!

No one seems to get this....so think hard:

Companies like Dell and HP are selling underpowered crap with only Vista as
an option. The reputation of the OS is sinking on this simple fact.

Check in your power plan that the CPU isn't being unnecessarily throtled
down.

Control Panel/ Power Options/ Change Plan Settings/Change Advanced power
Settings/Processor Power Management

On my Compaq, the default was processor Maximum state at 50%, on battery or
PLUGGED IN! Thanks, HP/Compaq, for picking a dumb setting.

Isn't that one of the good things about Vista? If not, why are they pushing
all the hardware?
