Hi,

How do I find out if I have software on my pc that is not compatible with
Vista? A month or so ago I kept getting a popup message and I went through
all the steps, but did not come up with anything and now every time I sign in
to my user the screen comes up for a few seconds and then "blinks".
everything else seems to be fine - I just find the blink annoying and
concerning (it seems that it is eventually not a good thing).

TIA
C

It's UAC. Google it.

Thanks, but I am not getting a UAC popup box. If this is what is causing my
screen to "blink" how do I stop it.

The original pop up box I got said something about compatibility of a
program, but I could not determ which program. How do I find out if I have a
program that is not compatible with vista.

Tx,
C

Windows Vista Application Readiness:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=92733

(Although your best bet may be to check it out at the software developer's
support site.)

The Program Compatibility Assistant:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...f4de71033.mspx

Make older programs run in this version of Windows:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...f5f101033.mspx

Since you said "everything else seems to be fine - I just find the blink
annoying and concerning" it seems you do not have a compatibility issue.

UAC "quiet mode" might stop "the blink"
To disable UAC prompts (aka "Quiet Mode") NOT UAC.
Run Regedit and navigate to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System]
Change the value of ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin from "2" to "0".
