Vista Sound Issue

Ok, this sounds nuts but....

The sound card keeps getting turned off In My Vista Ultimate machine.

By turned off I mean that if the machine is idle for a few seconds you can
hear a little "tick" from the speakers.
The same tick you hear when you boot the system, when the drivers get loaded
and the sound card is initialized.

When something happens that requires a sound to play, you hear a little
"tick" and then the sound plays.
Then a few seconds later another "tick" as the sound shuts down again.

Driving me nuts and I can find no setting to make it stop.

Any Ideas?

Right-click on Computer and choose Manage. Under Services, are Windows
Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder set to Automatic?

Did you check and see if you installed the audio drivers for your card
or motherboard? I was having the same problem as you're describing. I
checked to see if my audio drivers were installed, which they were not.
After I installed the audio drivers for my board, the issue was
resolved.

Did you check the date of the post you replied to? It's been THIRTEEN
MONTHS since the OP reported his problem.

Wow! Thanks dick. Sorry when I went into google and searched for the
problem instead of going through the tedious task of searching
Microsoft’s website, and found this answer, which wasn't that
helpful, I thought to myself, "Maybe I should write a reply so OTHERS
who find this useless information actually helpful or possibly a
solution to their problem.” But thanks to people like you, I have
to hear about some meaningless date. If I found it and what was written
didn't solve my problem, I figure others will find it and now they will
be able to solve their problem. So if this thread unimportant, then tell
the admin to delete or close the thread; so others don't make the same
problem as I did (fixing what should have been fixed long ago).

And just to clarify, I didn't intend to keep checking this tread to see
if he would reply to my question. It was more rhetorical than anything
else.
