I have changed email alert (outlook 2007)sound on Hardware & Sounds. It
worked a few times and now it has reverted back t windows default and no
sound is played. Also the speaker icon in task bar has dissapeared. When
customising task bar the speaker option is greyed out? Help would be greatly
apreciated.

Rightclick the Outlook shortcut to 'run as admin'. Make the sound change and
restart windows.

It seems there is something wrong with the speaker driver.
Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight all the sound devices,
Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers
again automatically.
