I just installed SP1, and it seems to have significantly slowed down my
system's 3D performance. There is serious choppiness in every application or
game that uses 3D -- Flip 3D, Solitaire, Command & Conquer 3, etc.. The
choppiness makes games all but unplayable. This was not an issue prior to
installing SP1. My video card is a Radeon X1300. I have the latest drivers
installed. Is there something in SP1 eating up GPU memory? What can I do to
regain my previous GPU performance?

re-install the drivers...

SP1 is working faster here not slower

Thanks for the suggestion. I did reinstall the drivers with no improvement.
Most things seem faster with SP1, but anything involving 3D graphics is
slower on my system. My graphics performance indexes also both decreased.
Something's going on.

Ah, I figured it out. At the same time I installed SP1, I upgraded from
Vista Business to Vista Ultimate. That upgrade made Vista look for new
drivers for all of my hardware. The graphics driver that it installed
(Radeon X1300/1500 series) turned out to be not as good as the graphics
driver that it had been using (Radeon X1300 Series [Microsoft Corporation -
WDDM]), even though Vista thinks it's more up-to-date. So I rolled back the
driver, and things are back to normal.

Good work! Congrats on figuring out the problem/solution.
