Tried to install SP1 for Vista 64 Bit on my (64 bit) Vista Home Premium PC
today. It failed spectacularly. BSD. It took a couple of hours using the
installation disk trying to repair the install: It did not work. Finally it
offered to repair the system by using System Restore. That worked.

Now I'm left wondering what is next. Am I stuck in some sort of Pre-Vista
SP1 limbo, never to seen any of the fabled SP1 improvements long promised to
we few who gladly installed Vista on our computers?

Consider where you got SP1 and follow the instructions if it was a
legitimate source (Tech-net etc.) or wait for authorized distribution.
Remember there are prior updates that must be in place before installing SP1

Looks like the general release is early. If you haven't installed the beta,
you should be able to go ahead and install. If any pre-requisites were
necessary they should have stopped the SP1 from showing.
