Vista SP1 & SP2

I recently had to re-image my hard drive. I was running Vista Home Premium
with SP1 installed. After the re-image I went to Windows Update and
downloaded and installed over 80 updates. But I was not offered SP1 or SP2.
My question is, do I need them? All of my original programs that I
re-installed seem to be working right. TIA

It doesn't make any difference if your original programs are working.
You should install the Operating System Service Packs, which have
nothing to do with your installed programs.

on on my computer right click properties and check under general wha
service pack you got.. If you have service pack 1 the sp2 will instal
after a while not right after you install window
but what you can do is download the updates and install them manuall
this will be more effectiv

After I installed SP2, I had nothing but problems including a
performance degradation. So did a friend of mine. That's why I
reinstalled the whole thing but did not install SP2. Now my system runs
like on rails.

what about the new OS dvds coming with sp2.. this happen when you
install a corrupted sp2 or else which brings the error code 0x800f08d
and others..

Sp2 installation also includes updating of drivers.. will have a better
performance on your computer..
I did an experiment.. have an old version of vista dvd installed then i
installed sp2 directly without installing service pack one and it
worked.. but it took a long time and was downloading updates from the
internet at the same time as well..

I can only speak for what I saw with my own eyes. Maybe in other place
it works well. But now I am practically all the time on Win7 - in par
because I installed it on an SSD and it is a LOT faster. I keep Vist
only as a fallback and to check out things when people have questions
BTW: I had the said problems here in Florida on my HP desktop and i
Germany on my Dell desktop too. So what can I tell you. Interestingl
though, on the wife's 2 laptops we never had a problem. But she has
bare bones system and the only program she uses is AOL whilst I have
whole armada of installed programs
