I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I have been told that the auto update
should have installed it by mid-April. So far, it has not been installed on
my computer, nor does it show up as having been made available as an update.
Can anyone tell me when this will occur?

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is
not offered by Automatic Updates:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

Perhaps there is a reason.

Thanks, but... on the Microsoft website is the following (I cut and will
paste only a portion of what's there):
"The easiest way to update your Windows Vista-based PC with SP1 is by using
the Windows Update control panel. Just set Windows Update to automatically
download important updates and Windows Update will download SP1 when it's
available for your PC. (It could take a month or more before SP1 shows up on
your PC, so please be patient.) After SP1 is downloaded you'll see an alert
like this: "

TaurArian, based on that paragraph, it seems very clear that SP1 IS
available via Windows Updates. In fact, that is the method they suggest as
the preferred manner of installation of the Service Pack. My question is,
again, when is this going to occur?

Thanks to anyone who can answer.

Seriously - you need to read and comprehend what you were originally sent
to...

It explains why _YOU_ may not be seeing it. It's there for MANY other
people. You want to go through the causes and solutions on the web page
given - not just read the title.

Direct answer for your question: It's happening for most people right now -
has been for some time. It's not happening for *you* for some reason -
perhapsone of the ones on the web page TaurArian sent you to. You will need
to go to that web page, read up and follow directions there to troubleshoot
your issue... Or contact your computer manufacturer or someone you will pay
to fix the issue for you.

Seriously! That was a ridiculous way to approach the answer! Why would one
automatically go to a website link when the sentences preceeding it were: >
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from
> > Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates: ??? Wouldn't it have been a bit clearer if he had said that was the title to an article? Jeesh!

When I did as you suggested, I saw what TaurArien actually meant, but did
not convey in English. Cause number 5 is the only potential valid cause, but
I'll just wait for a while rather than hunt down dozens of drivers and
install them.

Thanks for translating the first answer.

Dear Brorat, perhaps I should have simplified this in *your* case, I should
have said "Please click on the link below which will take you to a
Knowledgebase Article suggesting several reasons why you may not be offered
SP1."

I post KB articles and links due to articles often changing or being revised
and in some cases deleted. This means I check most of the links before
posting. Sorry, perhaps I should say "URL" instead of link. Don't want to
confuse you.

Normally I do not have to post an explanation of each and every KB article
and how to click on the link/URL and read the article.

KB = knowledgebase FYI
FYI = For your information

Had I realised the extent of your computer ability was that of a novice who
did not know how to access MS KB articles, I would have explained this a
little bit more. I made an incorrect assumption.

MS = Microsoft

My apologies for overestimating your computer ability. I assumed you wanted
to know what may be the reason you were not receiving SP1 and was directing
you to an article which may have explained it.

I have not come across this problem regarding OPs not being able to click on
links and read KB articles before.

Is this English enough for you?

I note that you have also made an assumption that TaurArian is a *he*.
Really, would a male have a nickname like "TaurArian", think about that one.
