Vista SP1-Computer now not starting

I installed SP1 via my normal scheduled updates, as i have been doing since
installation. When the system rebooted, there was an error saying it could
not complete installation, but would try again on start up. This did not
work, so i now cannot boot my computer. I get the following message:-

File: ntoskrnl.exe
Status: 0xc0000098
Windows failed to load because a required file is missing or corrupt.

It will not even start by last known good configuration or safe mode.

Using the repair option on the install disc does not fix anything. There,
for some unknown reason, no restore points either. The command prompt works
ok, but i don't know what to enter at the prompt.

The only things attached to my computer are the USB Mouse & Keyboard, and
monitor. I have not recently attached or instaaled anything new.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Exactly the same problem here. Others have apparently had the this problem
too, including with the Vista SP1 release candidate, but I haven't found a
solution posted anywhere.
