I have been trying to get sp1 installed on my vista home premium for some
time now. It never showed up in my windows update so I had to download the
standalone (500mgs) and it downloaded fine but when I run the app it just
does nothing. I have one important update on my windows
update(silverlight)but it will not update because it is missing a needed msi
file. This missising file will also not let me uninstall it or even upgrade
to the latetest version and when you have a update pending in updates you
cannot download and install sp1. I need a bourbon and coke!!!!!

Actually - the recommendation is if it does not show up on your Automatic
Updates - there is a reason and you likely should not force the installation
of the service pack without first figuring out why it is not being offered
to you automatically.

In fact - there is an entire article on it (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
that is.)

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows
Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

You may want to look through that first. ;-)

I guess I need to figure out how to remove this update. It is silverlight 1 and a needed msi file is missing so when I try to update it says cannot update the silverlight.msi file is missing and when I try to uninstall or download and install the newer version it says the same thing.......
