Vista SP1 Failed Genuine Advantage

I just installed Vista SP1 through Windows update, restarted my system and
got errors abour counterfeit software and my copy of windows didn't pass??????

Even more interesting is I have seen reports of this on machines known to
have pirated Vista previously and SP1 patched the cracks that were
available. So I would be more worried about where you got the PC from and
if they are selling pirated software.

I bought this PC (e-machines 3.00GHz dual-core processor, 1 gig ram, Vista
Home Premium) brand new at Walmart on sale for $600 in September. It was
fine until I installed SP1.

At any rate, it's no longer a problem. I just re-booted and it went away,
don't ask why. Microsoft softeware is allways a mystery and a
challenge........

That happened to me as well. A reboot took care of it. Seems that not all
of the updates finished installing until you reboot or they didn’t take
effect till you reboot. Then the activate thing goes away and you are legit
again.

Just one of those wonderful things that happens with PC's.

That is a single sided statement. The fact of the matter is it isnt just
Microsoft products. I can not even begin to tell you how many applications
like Nero, Alcohol 120% among many, many others that require you to reboot
before you can use them then after you reboot require you to connect to the
internet to activate them. Where that results in many issues in itself.

So no this isnt just a Microsoft thing. It is a PC thing. Thank you.

Actually no it is *not* a PC thing.

It is a software-vendor thing that choose to use such tactics.

It is up to you as a customer to choose to buy such products.

I don't have the above problems on my PC as I don't run Vista (at least
not on any primary machines, only on a development testing system),
Alcohol 120% or Nero. See what I'm trying to get at?

So no, it is not a PC thing.
