Vista SP1, McAfee, IE7, and "blank windows"

I updated to SP1 on my Dell Dimension 9100 from Home Premium.

After the SP1 upgrade, when I try to open McAfee (it is running in the Event
Viewer) - I get the opening sequence and then a blank window.

I open CNN.Com and get an "Error on Page" message, and the advertising box
does not run (no biggie). BUT if I click on "Error on Page", then I get
about 30 windows opening for a "debug check" but no details of what causes
the error. The only way to get past all of the windows is to do a Task
Manager and force IE7 closed.

If I open IE7 with "NO ADD-ONS", the problem still exists.

I open Windows communities, and the threads don't show...only a blank box.

If I go back to Windows (NON-SP1), these problems disappear.

If I use Opera as my browser, I can see and experience all of these browser
pages.

I have McAfee and SpySweeper active in the event viewer and there is no
indication of malware, spyware or a virus (unless MS released the SP1
download with malware -- UNLIKELY).

What's going on???

Thanks....Jay

HARDWARE: Dimension 9100 w/4GB RAM and 125GB HDD
Logitech QuickPro 4000 Webcam
Western Digital External HDD
ATI 2400HD Video Card
Sound Blaster Sound Card
USB-based UPS

Uninstall McAfee and it will probably work. McAfee has had a lot of
complaint traffic here since SP1.

Hey Mark...et all -

I removed McAfee and SpySweeper. The problem still exists

AND

Windows Defender gives an "not yet...." to Internet Explorer in the software
examination, running programs section.

Sorry that it's not more accurate. I'm on another computer to troubleshoot
the computer I'm having problems with.

Seems to me that there is a problem with either the version of Vista/IE7 not
recognizing activation OR that Windows Defender is corrupt.

I'm running the latest McAfee protection, Vista SP1 and IE7 and no problems
at all.
I suggest that you check for spyware with the free versions of these tools:
http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
Check that your Vista is totally up to date for both non-critical as well as
critical updates and that your Java and Flash are also up to date:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
also check your browser settings are DEFAULT.
In IE7 go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click the Reset button.
Close and reopen IE7 and re-enable all the add-ons.
Lastly make sure that you are not operating two firewalls or anti-virus
applications as these can cause issues.

I checked the computer thoroughly for malware/spyware to installation.
Unless there is a hiccup in the installation .exe - I should be fine.

My Vista is up to date for all updates including Java, Flash, and Shockwave.

I've reset my IE7 and run as both NO Add-Ons and renabled add-ons (the few
that I have).

The ONLY other thing is if my Wireless Router is not SP1 compliant. It is a
Linksys WRT300N version 1.0.

However, my Dell Laptop upgraded perfectly and is working just fine.

Suggestions??

I'm having what appears to be exactly the same problem. It appears tha
Flash is not working. I have also lost the McAfee icon in the tray
though it appears that McAfee is working correctly. If I run Explore
as administrator, everything works fine so I expect it is some sort o
file permission problem..

I just upgraded IE7 to IE8 Beta 1 and it fixed the problem. I had to
"repair" the McAfee installation to get the tray icon back, but
everything seems to be working normally now....
