I have a Toshiba P200 laptop with 3gb memory running Vista 32bit oem
I decide to do a fresh install and then install Sp

At the end of installation i was asked if to install some lates
hotfixes which I clicked yes to, it took an eternity so i canceled
It had by then installed some anoying troublesome hotfix it wont let m
remov

KB938371, KB935509 and KB93728

I proceeded to install Sp1 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/d...&displaylang=e

I choosed english (i have spanish vista but i guess the language ther
is just to translate the text on the webpage not the program itself tha
is multilanguage

Before installing Sp1 I had installed Kaspersky antivirus and Zonealar
pro which I always do (recomended) before doing anything else

I installed SP1 and it installed fine then the BIG problems started

First My laptop was running a bit slow so after a google i disable
this services
Windows Defende
Superfetc
WerSv
Windows media center extende
NetTcpPortSharin
DP
SharedAcces
wscsvc centro de segurida
Ati External Event Utilit
iphlpsv
lmhost
AgereModemAudi
PolicyAgen
RasMa

Then Pc was not so slow longer...

But Then i began getting Hits in firewall from a lot of Svchost o
different port range 40000-50000 wanting to acess interne
(mind you I had not installed much on the fresh pc install yet so n
virus

I get suspicious and denied it acess

The svchost trying to always conect to the internet stopped...

Then later after some time (doing many things at once as I always us
to do
The Browser start being slow , when i clicked the IE7 or firefox i
took like 2-3 minuts until it load a page, sometimes it helped to clos
browser and open it again

It somehow looked like my browsing was routed through something tha
made a considerably delay
I noticed that when this happen the Fan start spinning faster, A reboo
fixed the problem for some time until it apears again

The worst is the memory leak
Before installing Sp1 I had a memory leak not allowing me to copy mor
than certain amount of files (Dont remember now but something abou
16000
after this i would get a "not enough memory" error copy files to/fro
Pc or inwithin the pc itself

A reboot again fixed this, after installing Sp1 this problem wa
solved

But then this other memory problem happens
I'm not certain why or how this happen or if is related to som
installed progra
but after a while (random time) of doing several things on the p
(today was mostly browsing files and using a image editor) I get a VER
anoying memory problem

When the memory problem arise this happens
- there is a delay when browsing from page to page in IE or firefox o
even opening the Browse
- Sometimes ALL .exe files programs wont start i get "You dont hav
permission" errors when this happen i try to do a ctrl+alt+del o
ctrl+shift+esc to see what programs are running in background but i ge
"you dont have permission" so cant open the window of backgroun
applications

- I can open explorer.exe and browse folders and such but cannot clic
on any program

Today when problem happened I had conected my digital camera and wa
surprised that the smale snapshots of the recent photos on the Sdcar
didnt show (only the old ones) So i copy the photos to my Hardrive bu
it wont let me open the
guess what I get "You dont have permission" on the files again

Again..... a Reboot fixes this as with all other related to thi
proble

BUT..... when this memory/permision problem happens the PC wont let m
shutOFF or reboot the Pc either , i dont get any error message jus
nothing happens
(The pc dont freeze

Somehow it look to me that a program or some service? is using up th
memory and not releasing it

this did not happen before i formated and it must be related to Sp
and/or the hotfixed that was installed (that i cant uninstall)

So how do i get rid of this anoying problem so I dont have to RESET m
Pc many times a day

Is the only way to Format my Pc again and do a fresh install (be th
second in one week) and then just disable Windows update (Recomended)
and dont install SP1

I mean i dont care as long all work and i have a firewall, antispyware
and antivirus shield I dont want to even tuch hotfixes and security
updates.
for some reason on Vista OEM (preinstalled vista from factories) it
does more harm than good.

So what do you guys suggest
anything i should try before formating again.

Why did Microsoft had to release Vista when Xp was running so good

Did you download and install the Toshiba-designed Windows Vista hardware
drivers that are available from the Toshiba Support web site?

Thanks, I will start with using the System File Checker as soon i finish
my virus scan.

About the Bios i had plan to upgrade it since i am one of those
suffering the random blackscreen problem on toshiba laptops which the
bios update might fix

Since i have never done a bios update im worried it can brick my pc
i know i should have the correct version and such ... but still
worried.

At this point, you might as well resign yourself to starting over
and perform a clean install of Windows Vista.

The online Viruscan is terminated and not much was foun

there was a generic malware in
C:\Program Files\myphotobook\xtras\process.ex

Which is a program that the Toshiba Vista Oem CD installe
is probaly a false possitive but since i dont use this program
removed that fil

Then there is a Generic trojan and another generic malware but the
zipped in a .zip file and have never been executed is probaly anothe
false possitive but to be sure they have been removed
(one of this files are a screensaver

So seem the problem is not Virus related so far

I have also terminated the chkdsk and all error it found have bee
fixe
I will keep checking if this can have solved the problem is still t
early to sa

Upon writing this i tested Ctrl+alt+del and i didnt get any error but
am not sure yet

Please keep reading this and if you come up with more easy suggestion
on how to proceed so far let me know

I will delay the Formating of hardisk until next week and try to solv
it another way first
