vista sp1 not being auto installed

I have a new pc with windows vista. Windows update is set to install all
important and recommended updates. Over the last two weks I have had many
updates identified and automatically installed each day at 9am. $ days ago
the update information page showed me that there was 1 important update
available--I viewed available updates and it shows vista sp1 as available.
But everyday for the last 4 days 9am comes and goes but the automatic
downloading and installing does not happen for the vista sp1.

Anyone have any insights as to why sp1 doesn't just go ahead and be
installed automatically when it is showing as available?

I have the same issue. Please advise if anyone has a solution.

At the present time Vista SP1 needs to be installed manually. It's not yet
set to auto install.

Thany you. Is there anything I need to be alert for in doing this manually?
There must be some reason it doesn't do it automatically.

In reading this NG installing Vista SP1 affect users in different ways.
Myself I had no problems installing SP1. You should read the article that PA
Bear sent you. There is a piece in there about third party drivers, one
being Creative and a certain driver for a sound card. I corrected all driver
issues before installing.

If Windows Update detection logic determines that a machine is ready for
Vista SP1, it *will* be offered by Windows Update. However, no Service Pack
will install automatically: The user will be prompted to approve the install
before it takes place.

I would NOT recommend attempting to install SP1 manually if it hasn't been
offered by Windows Update yet! See...
