it seems the results are all over the map.
some say it sucks, others say it's the best thing since sliced bread, and
some say it changes nothing.
so your results isn't all that unusual.

Wrong. The same hardware I'm running now WAS running XP a year ago, and
there is no noticeable difference in speed, response times or any other
aspect of performance. It doesn't seem to be any faster or any slower -
just about the same.

Wrong again. I've tried four different Linux distros over the past year,
and they are NOT any more stable than Vista. I've had Ubuntu freeze solid
on a number of occasions. So far Vista hasn't frozen or blue-screened once
for me.

Did you forget about Windows ME. Vista is Windows ME re-born

From what you say I can conclude only one thing.

You have no idea what you are doing.

If someone can install vista and xp on the same hardware and doent see a
staggering difference in speed there is something wrong with him.
OR he doenst have the technical background to understand whats going on.

Sorry dude... XP is at least 30% faster than Vista on the same hardware. I
have seen this on a large vierity of hardware from older single cores up to
4 core monsters.

Listen to the pros... Vista is slower... you will find this information all
over the internet, even microsoft says that this is "natural" claiming
that every previous version of windows is faster than the next....

sure but vista is slower without good reason.

XP may have had more bloat than win98 but look at all the great stuff it
brought.. stability flexibilty... fantastic.
What did vista bring? CRAP CRAP CRAP! Its a frikin pig with lipstick!

When I saw that statement, I knew you were BSing, XP will be faster on the
same hardware as Vista. Tell us what you run this on?

SP1 makes vista slightly faster....but dont expect miracles.

its like having a turtle thats in a bit of a rush instead of a turtle
taking its time.

Can you imagine? that same hardware you have now, if it was running XP,
would be lightning fast!

Im not kidding... many had done the "upgrade" from vista to XP, and they
are very happy to have gotten rid of vista and have been amazed from the
speed, stability and responsiveness of XP.

XP is the last good OS from Microsoft, vista was a pile of crap, and we
will see if windows7 in 2010 if its any better, but im not expecting
much any more.

I was expecting vista to be really good, but it was really bad.
I didnt think MS was capable of such crap...

so Im not really too hopeful for windows7

Im now writing this from Ubuntu, that is stable, fast and secure and
free.....
