Vista SP2

Vista Home Premium

I am psyching myself up to installing SP2 but would like to hear a few
Microsoft-MVP's opinions. So far I've heard of people experiencing all kinds
of problems, more than previous updates in Vista and XP - I had no trouble
with either, including Vista SP1, but I suspect there may be some bugs to
watch out for.

I've installed SP2 on numerous machines and had no issues. It was an easier
and quicker process than SP1. However, you should always take precautions
before installing a Service Pack.

Make sure your computer is completely virus/malware-free.

Back up your data to external media (DVD-R, external hard drive, etc.)

Disable real-time antivirus/security programs before you start the
installation. I also like to have only the necessary processes running.

I prefer to use the downloaded installer rather than Windows Update.

Update?

You can do that if you like. I'm a computer tech and I like to have all my
tools with me so I have various Service Packs already on CD-R. Just make
sure you've done your prep work before you start installing the SP.

I only asked out of interest for others. I have usually done it that way
myself but only because I feel safer off-line. Because my McAfee
antivirus/firewall etc cannot be disabled I have to uninstall it.

That said, it's all done. Start to finish 50 minutes. At present everything
seems normal.
