Hi all,

I have very strange problem. I turn on my computer as usual and wait
more than half an hour to start Vista in safe mode. I can't imagine
how long I have to wait for normal mode. Everything works extremly
slow in safe mode. I don't know why:/ I use Vista Bussines and it is
first time when I have this problem. It looks that everything works
properly but as slow as never. I don't want to reinstall the system
cuz I have important data on it. Maybe It is hardware faoult... but I
don't think so cuz system wouldn't work anyway. Help me!!

Please can you provide the specifications of your hardware?

One other item to look at is your hard disk. An extreme slowdown in
system performance can be attributed to a failing hard disk. If your
hard disks are S.M.A.R.T capable, you should install a utility to report
their status. Also do a complete CHKDSK, scanning for bad sectors.

I did system restore but the problem still exists. I wanted to
reinstall system but booting from CD is also very slow. So probably it
isn't systems failure. Dzomlija what do you mean by hardware
specifications? Could you explain step by step what should I do??

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Has your computer been slow since you installed vista or has this
problem just come to light.

It has apeared today... I used Vista about one year. I know it works
not so fast... but waiting almost one hour 'enter password menu' is to
long I think:P I can't even check for malware software cuz I'm not so
patient:P I think that my computer was well protected against such
programms. I used avast antivir and I regular update Vista and Avast.
Probably I will have to format harddisk... and lost my data:/ but I
don't have guarantee thet it will help:/

A lot of things have "Drivers", what they are depends on your
motherboard, the chip set used in it and anything external to the
motherboard such as video and sound cards. It is critical that usable
drivers are installed, and it is possible that during the night Windows
Update installed something that is not suitable or became broken while
installing.

Your motherboard and device manufacturer's may have drivers on their
website, it is becoming more popular for them also to have a utility
that chooses the right drivers for you.

You may be able to find something that will fix your problem without
reinstalling. If it's a recent machine and you got a CD with it that has
drivers on it you could try those, they should at least work with the
motherboard.

It is usually recommended that you stop Antivirus and other security
programs before installing drivers so see what you can find, make a plan
and if you are nit sure about anything ask again.

Vista keeps track of everything that loads on startup. You can use this
information to diagnose the problem.
