My new vista business laptop was added to our XP domain. I lost the ability
to do updates though i can do updates on my old XP desktop.
The change settings options are grey out and both update pages state your
updates are received from an administer. (I have admin rights.)
If i click the check for updates button it runs and then eventually returns
an error message 80072EFD - "If you receive Windows Update error 80072efd
while checking for updates, you might need to add the website addresses from
which Windows Update downloads updates to your firewall exceptions or "allow"
list."
I have the firewall turned off and i added microsoft to my trusted lists.
This still doesn't explain the administrator control of updates.
I called our outsourced help desk and they said they do not have any
policies that restrict users doing windows updates.
In various message boards I have found similar users who have this problem
and some have no domain. I am sure it is a vista bug.
I ran group policy editor and everything is "not configured."
Thanks
