vista sudden shutdown

hi,

i was using my pc and suddenly it shutted down, without closing any windows
or anything. i wanted to know why it happened and how can i prevent it from
happening again.

By the way, i have a gateway mx3423.

If the system rebooted without warning, that is Windows solution to the
BSOD...it just reboots and you never see the error message.
If it shuts off instead of rebooting, that is many times a hardware problem
and may have nothing to do with Windows.
I would check to be sure the memory and all add-in cards are properly
seated.
